Little brown mushrooms fruiting on log. Upland area, mixed hardwoods.

Recognized by sight: Small size; growing on wood (common but not required for Mycenas); white gills; typical stature. Classic Little Brown Mushrooms. It would be very hard to get these to species without knowing the odor, whether the liquid that comes out of the bottom of the stipe has any color (unlikely in this case), and probably a host of microscopic features.
