Observation 116165: Agaricus pequinii (Boud.) Singer

Same site, 5th collection, about a week after the weather has turned noticeably colder. Gills medium brown – not as dark /mature as previous collections. Note that a portion of the cap is still attached to the very soft, almost rubbery annulus at the base of the stipe. Stipe hollow near cap, cap relatively thin, stem very firm. Base of stipe appears to be in more granular perhaps iron-based or iron-contaminated soil. This was typical of earlier collections. Margin of cap appendiculate. Stipe stains red 30 seconds after cut, then turns brown.
