This observation is about the mushroom on the left; the one on the right, apparently a Russula, is dealt with in obs. 11617.
Despite the silvery streaked cap, which I’ve seen on several local Cortinarius lately, this mushroom had pale gills and no indications of a cortina when upturned.
Especially interesting is that the gills look free, or almost so.
Found in damp mixed woods.
