Used references: Aurora, p. 694, under L. pulcherrimum. Something about this photo reminds me of echidna (Spiny headhog). The spines are curved, not straight, like tiny hooks. The key to this is spine formation. I do not see the fusing of spines which would indicate L. pulcherrimum, which should have straight spines (at least according to Aurora).
