Observation 116527: Pholiota (Fr.) P. Kumm.

When: 2012-11-04

Collection location: Mossville, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

One cluster growing from the ground in a disturbed area. I think the bright orange on the stope bases may be the result of a piece of orange brick buried where the mushrooms were found growing.

Spores look more like Pholiota than Gymnopilus. Print was not thick enough to get a good read on the color. But I did not notice the dark/purplish tone that I associate with Hypholoma.

Odor nil.

Based on microscopic features: Spores appear to be smooth… at least compared to my photos of Gymnopilus spores.
