HABITAT open forest; SUBSTRATE siliceous rock; ASPECT mostly shaded; NOTES on siliceous rock in hardwood forest; THALLUS v closely appresed, pale grayish, narrow flat shiny lobes with looped axils, v short black cilia in axils, smooth surface, scattered thickish cylindrical to sausage-shaped simple to occasionally forked concolorous isidia, orangish discolorations from off-white medulla occasionally showing through thinnings in cortex, black below to brownish at very edge with abundant simple black rhizines, K+ yellow, C-, KC-; MEDULLA white, K+ yellow turning bright red persisting, C-, KC fading to yellow-orange and persisting.
