HABITAT open forest; SUBSTRATE Pinus bark; ASPECT mostly open; NOTES on bark of pine on small ridge; THALLUS pale grayish-green, ruffled, black cilia to 1mm or so common, piles of sorsidia mostly at margins often with black cilia sometimes scattered thinly on surface not far from tips never in center, weakly maculate esp near tips, some transverse thin cracks, black and wrinkled below grading to pale brownish near margins, rhizines right to edge, K+y, C-, KC- or red-orange in maculae; MEDULLA white, K-, C+ very slowly orange and persisting, KC+ very briefly pink turning rapidly strong red-orange and slowly fading to muddy orange-red then persisting.
