HABITAT open ridge-top with laurel scrub, oak-spruce-fir forest; SUBSTRATE siliceous rock; ASPECT open; NOTES on exposed siliceous rock on top of narrow ridge; THALLUS shiny light gray to brownish darker gray at the margins, lobes rounded-crenulate and small, below pale buff to brown in the center to black near margin, black forked cilia and brown to paler rhizines, scattered tiny soralia of short black isidia, K+ yellow, C-, KC-; MEDULLA white, K-, C+ instantly deep red persisting, KC+ instantly red fading to yellow-orange.
