Observation 117223: Chlorophyllum Massee

When: 2012-11-18

Collection location: 7800 SE Stephens, Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

My neighbor insists he has been eating this as rapidly as it is produced. As he lives across the street from the fruiting, it’s getting harder to find this before he claims it. Site is rather distinctive, something of a neighborhood wildlife sanctuary, with lots of native plants added. Overstory of Deodor cedar and Port Orford cedar; understory of Vine maple, Tall Oregon grape, Woods violet.

In the cited key, C. oliveri has a stipe longer than the cap is wide.
Stipe staining orange-red, brown and towards the base of stipe, bruises black.

to see a dingy background where the scales are tufted up. I’m not sure there’s enough detail showing to call this to species.
