Recognized by sight: reddish to bronzed-brown w/fibers (mycelial threads) at the base. base of white undeveloped spore mass turned a dull red when cut in half. no sterile base.

The gleba tissue looks slightly chambered, like a scleroderma. Also, the white mycelial threads look like that of a scleroderma.
I have no recolection of Bovista leucoderma collections from California. I have not collected it, and I have not seen any herbarium collections of it at SFSU, HSU or UCB.
If you dry it, I can get it from you when I at am UCB on 11/30. I can look at the spores then.
