Observation 117445: Tricholoma murrillianum Singer
When: 2012-11-18
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Was way too excited to stop and take a pic in the field for these! Found in an almost unbelievable spot in the city of Olympia in (of all places) a parking lot! Fruiting 1’s to flags under Pinus contorta. All I can think is that the imported P. contorta had the Matsie spores in its roots when transplanted to the parking lot. Smelled incredible as usual :)

Ironically we drove over 3 hours each way a month ago to Mt. Adams and found only one small matsutake- about 3 lbs. from an in town parking lot this day.

Recipes tried this week:

1: Miso soup with cubed Matsutake pieces.

2: Grilled matsutake on propane grill- added to lobster ravioli and cream sauce, with asparagus and jumbo shrimp on side.

3: Grilled matsutake in tin foil packet with butter, green onion, salt and pepper.

All were amazing!
