Stems pliant. Odor of raw potatoes.

Spores 9-10 × 7-7.5 microns. Basidia 4-spored, ~30 microns long. Cheilocystidia ~55 microns long. No pleurocystidia.

Based on microscopic features: Cheilocystidia appear to be closer to the description of M. rubromarginata (narrow necks) than that of M. purpureofusca (broadly rounded).
