In northern california (Eureka) they grow in coastal dune grasses. Around here, they grow in grass occasionally, but only next to places where they grew in wood chips before.
It seems like a lot of observations of P. cyanescens are from wood chips that have been irrigated during the Summer and occasionally they occur in grass. Have they spread from irrigated wood chips? Have you found them in places where wood chips are not irrigated in Summer?
