Observation 118371: Flammulaster rhombosporus (G.F. Atk.) Watling

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing on rotting bark, probably cottonwood. Caps less than 1 cm; stems up to 1.5 cm. Spores 8 × 5 microns.

Compared with 10 Flammulaster species in Funga Nordica—-nothing seems a good match.

I suppose you’re right: let’s say it’s close enough to rhomobosporus. Thanks for the pointer to your obs and references and discussion there. It helped.

Except maybe the cystidia are too thick there, the ones I looked at were more pointed. If that is part of the normal variation, then I’d say these are the same species.
