Notes: SUBSTRATE granite outcrop in mixed forest on north-facing slope of canyon; ASPECT shaded; NOTES thin gray-brown areolate crust, apothecia black and sunken and tiny 1-2 per areole, no pruina, rims concolorous and even with thallus but raised above disk, epihymenium brown to slightly oliveaceous, K+y-r norstictic acid crystals present, paraphyses moniliform with 3-4 cells somewhat to quite swollen (in K), spores 8 per ascus 25-28 × 10-12 µm, conidia 25-30 × 1 µm.

Hard to believe this is the same as the stuff in the next observation…
