I just don’t know better when it comes to Boletes, and now that you mentioned it, that cracked cap looks like B.chrysenteron. I zeroed in on B.spadiceus in Bessette, but MO said it’s deprecated, and forced me to take B.ferrugineus instead, which, as you mentioned, is not in the book. Since the book is more than 10 years old, I figured maybe that’s the way it is.

I don’t think Boletus ferrugineus is in the North American Bolete book. I think it is a European species. Your photos are possibly of Boletus chrysenteron.

I was looking through Bessette “North American Boletes”, and couldn’t find a better match
