Found a small patch of these scattered around a 3′ × 3′ area on the lawn of a new development.

I ruled out Psathyrella

Because of the dark mottled gills and because it’s stem is: stuffed, fiberous, and not brittle..

Only thing in my opinion that “says” Psathyrella is the cap shape; However its too “meaty”.

should rule out Psathyrella, no? I think the really jet black gills and reddish stems would rule out Panaeolina.

Only thing really throwing me for a loop is their overall size, and none of the others in the patch (regardless of age) were shaped differently than these.
