The rather simple definitions of the sections in Amanita makes it possible to eliminate some errors and speak to each other meaningfully about our finds and photographs even when we don’t know the specific species name.

I don’t see any volval remains. I think that that would eliminate the possibility of Amanita farinosa. I think this is more likely to be a gray-capped species in the Vaginatae.

None of the species in sect. Lepideilla that I can think of have a striate cap margin.

Amanita onusta is actually predominantly white with dark gray warts on the cap and gray volval dust in other places.
