Every day I find a hundreds of mushrooms
Some I try to see a taste, some I cut in half to see the change of color
The most interesting mushrooms ,I take home for spore print.
There is many of which I only have photographs.
Some of these pictures I put on the MO.
On your Lactarius pictures, you might cut the gills and upper stipe. Or cut one in half vertically. Take a picture and if you can then take another five minutes later. Also even if you can not accurately tell odors and tastes, you might be able to tell acrid vs. mild? All these plus habitat are clues to help with identifications.
I do not remember
whether or not the latex turned yellow on exposure? This looks like L. vinaceorufescens.
