Notes: Growing from a 2-liter space bag of non-compressed wood chips, sawdust, and rice bran. Shiitake mycelium growing through everything and creates this solid-appearing mass.


I like sitting the blocks on a shallow cookie pan.
Cap fibrils sometimes form star shapes, sometimes combine to form fibrous scales.

Gills have notched (serrated) gills – a distinctive feature of shiitake.
