Observation 120351: Cortinarius regalis A.H. Sm. & P.M. Rea

Notes: These were growing mostly under duff among Live Oak and Madrone.
Caps up to 8.7 cm across and sl. moist.
The mottled brownish cap cap color seemed consistent even on the little young specimen. Also, there was no violet or bluish tints on any part of the mushrooms.
KOH was negative on all surfaces.
Spores were ~ (8.2)8.9-10.0(10.9) X 5.3-6.5 microns and moderately roughened.
Did not detect any strong odor.

Recognized by sight: Looks like a Telamonia, but as Ron noted, intermediate with a Phlegmacium. Mottled brownish cap with whitish UV remnants, bulbous base even slightly marginate, live oak habitat.
