Observation 121400: Lycogala epidendrum (J.C. Buxb. ex L.) Fr.

When: 2012-12-28

Collection location: Wildwood Park, Radford City, Virginia, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dr. Gary Coté (gcote)

No specimen available

Found on a fungal survey. Originally identified as Hypoxylon fragiforme, but there are no beeches in the Park, which is oak / hickory / maple forest. I think it may be Lycogala epidendrum, or another Lycogala.

What field characteristics allow us to distinguish L. exiguum from L. epidendrum?
