the specimens of this that I find are quite small…

and certainly NOT the true aprica. The link that you provided to Christian’s SC sighting does indeed seem to be the true aprica.

Were the mushrooms that you found robust?

“aprica group” is just a place-holder for this mushroom.

it is not really aprica, but shares some features with it, mostly a universal veil that grows into the cap.

we see it commonly in both Canyon and Huckleberry preserve, which are adjacent.

we have several cryptic species in the gemmata complex here in CA. we are teasing them out one by one. this one seems to share some characters w/aprica, but may not be related at all.

How do you differentiate from A. gemmata?
