Show top and bottom (to see pore color), and split one down the middle — you may see staining reactions of the flesh and/or pores.

You can do a bit of chemical testing too — carry a dropper bottle of some of these with you: clear ammonia (easy to find), 5% KOH (a bit harder to get), and/or 10% FeSO4 solution.

Reactions to them can help a lot with bolete ID.
