Unfortunately the history of the taxonomy of the fertile Usnea is a mess. I think the common one out west was called U. arizonica but got lumped in with the European U. intermedia when the Sonoran Flora was written. This isn’t strictly speaking in the U. strigosa group, I don’t think. Probably best to call all the fertile Usnea in CA U. intermedia for now.
