Observation 122706: Tricholoma terreum (Schaeff.) P. Kumm.
When: 2013-01-12
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found along the side of a wide dirt path running from The Village to the Bay Tree Bookstore (Eastern Central Campus). They were growing under a fallen log where they were most likely hidden from direct daylight most of the time.

Small, approximately 2-3 inches tall with a cap of <2 inches diameter. No ring on stalk, no apparent volva. Gills are white to grayish… stalk is white to grayish… Noticeably dark cap, almost black, especially toward the center of the cap. Cap feels slightly furry.

Minimal, mild scent.

Any ideas?
