I’ve seen this fungus several times and the mature ones always have a dip inward on only one side of the cap that makes them look kidney shaped as seen in the second picture. I will try to get more photos of them up, if I can find them.

I saw today some pictures of Cortinarius flexipes identical to these (the cap and that white zone on the stipe). The only difference is that these are sturdy, and all descriptions are to 1-4.5cm cap and 4-8 cm long to 0.3-0.7cm diam stipe.

I am not familiar with C. flexipes so I don’t wish to doubt your ID, but there do seem to be many shaggy armillarias around santa cruz.
