Observation 12279: Usnea Dill. ex Adans.

When: 2008-10-09

Collection location: Southeast Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Notes:
Usnea species, found on Quercus palustra (Eastern Red oak). Lichen is pendant, with a black attachment to the bark, but with major stems of first 1/4 inch dark brown/black, then becoming dark gray-green with white rings/gladules on the major stems. I recognize I need to download the Usnea key for Oregon, but I also need to find a source for a lye solution to test K+ changes. Anyone want to remind me how to do that?
