Observation 123052: Non-fungal

No herbarium specimen

Notes: I found these under some leaves at the base of an embankment next to the road. About 70 feet above sea level. They had the texture of gelitan. Compleatly clear.

I mistook those for Fungi once. I didn’t realize they were those pellets for keeping soil moist until a couple of weeks later. Photographed em and everything..ha

Thanks for bringing this over to MO. Just a tip or two for naming: Generally speaking, anything non-fungal simply gets the title Non-fungal, unless someone feels compelled to describe it in Latin with a binomial or other ranking (eg: Nostoc, Monotropa, Trentepohlia, Plantae, etc.). The product name Hydrogel not being Latin (nor that which the name refers to a living organism), plain old Non-fungal is a better fit, in my opinion.
