Observation 12451: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray

When: 2008-10-12

Seen at: Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Notes:
This huge Cortinarius is over 6 inches across the dark brown cap; has brown gills with a violet tint; stipe is 5 inches tall, white near the gills, coloring dark brown to tan or light tan closer to the bulbous base, with a rather extensive extension to the bulb underneath it. Unfortunately not recognized by either Dr. Lorelei Norvell nor Dr. Judy Rogers, probably because of time constraints.
