Observation 127386: Agaricales sensu lato

When: 2013-02-01

Collection location: East Lyme, Connecticut, USA [Click for map]

Who: Sam.Schaperow (SamSchaperow)

No specimen available

A 1st ever for me:

For many years I have looked at the ground in the dead of winter. Yesterday I finally found an actual agaric on the ground w/o any evidence of wood or leaf litter. The reason the date on MO is 2/1 is that it wasn’t until today that I dug it out. Meanwhile, the ground froze and the mushroom went from being in great shape to as pictured.

Note one picture shows the dirt it was on from the underside. It was hard to dig out, due to it being frozen soil.

Also, I’m in zone 6b (even w/the revised zones).
