Recognized by sight: Found in mixed conifer & hardwood forest bordering the Alpine meadows on a foray led by Italian mycologist, Giorgio Lalli. He used the synonym, Hebeloma edurum
Used references: Upon review,the Italian mycologist, Pierluigi Angeli, has changed the name for this mushroom to Hebeloma porphyrosporum – There is a description here-

as Hebeloma sarcophyllum in older sense of European authors. There is a similar case with Xerocomus dryophilus versus guidonis/redeuilh where the American name was used for an European taxon. Usually it is vice versa.
