Recognized by sight: delicate pale fruit bodies under redwood. decurrent, widely spaced, intervenous gills. interesting yellowish color in older specimen.
Based on chemical features: no cedar odor.

that was recently discussed here. It is more of a nomenclature issue, not a taxonomical issue.

This is no more a Hygrocybe then Lichenomphalia, Chrysomphalina, Chromosera, Gliophorus, Humidicutis, Dictyonema!!, etc, etc, are.

Either call them ALL Hygrophorus or learn and accept the new (old) names…
