Observation 12767: Rhizopogon Fr. & Nordholm
When: 2008-10-16
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: I’ve found enough Rhizopogons to recognize them on site. Normally I find Rhizopogon occidentalis in this area. This young Rhizopogon has variations. The peridium is mostly brown tones with white, and cracking to expose a white gleba; where cut peridium stains red to reddish-pink. The small portion of the mature gleba is brown. Rhizomorphs (thread or root-like structures) cover and compose a slightly fibrous, thin, nearly felt-like peridium, easily torn or eroded away. Collection being sent for identification, to be kept at Oregon State Herbarium.is
