This is not an unreasonable name

…even if it’s clearly unrelated to B. aleuriatus (that is clearly not clear)… for the same reason that, say, Agaricales sensu lato is not an unreasonable name for an unidentified agaric that clearly belongs in the Boletales.

re: “Voting wars”… Votes indicate the voter’s opinion on what the observation should be called… I’m voting my opinion… not sure what the issue is.

Can’t win with reason so change your votes, lol… This still has nothing to do with the name Bolbitius aleuriatus. Might as well call it Bolbitius lacteus sensu CA, would be just as right.

Hence the “sensu CA”.

Any remaining shred of inaccuracy is vastly trumped by the usefulness of calling this something better than just “Bolbitius”.

What I recall from the last debate on this it was determined to not be B. reticulatus macroscopically, microscopically and through DNA. I don’t think this has much to do with B. reticulatus sensu stricta and am “doubtful” that we should continue to use a misapplied name for these even if we include sensu lato or something similar. Unfortunately I don’t have much very useful Bolbitius literature, fan6 is clearly inadequate for delimiting most Bolbitius in California.

This is 100% very close at least to B. reticulatus/aleuriatus. Do you have an alternative on hand?
