of gills on a few of my own observations that I believe to be R. mariae.

mentions the red staining on the gills. As for this being strongly intervenose, the photo is not real sharp. Sometimes mushrooms have atypical features. Look at this: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/72306?q=12WsB&size=huge.
I have seen other mushrooms do this. I have no explanation. Becoming poroid?

Russula mariae, but the gills are strongly interveined as you can see in the photo.
