These were growing under manzanita and near mixed woods of tanoak, fir and Huckleberry. Conditions were dry.
Caps were up to 3.1 cm across.
Spores were ~ 6.4-9.1 X 4.6-6.0 microns and sl. rough.
KOH on cap and flesh was a dark red.
They could be C. phoeniceus var. occidentalis but coloring and habitat does not seem quite right.
