Observation 129020: Hypocrea mesenterica
When: 2012-09-29

Notes: I have the collection. I try to scope it sometime soon. I just got the reticule for my new scope so I am set. I cant remember the name right now but it will come to me. I only say this once before in a different state so I want to double check.

I saw Hypocrea peltata twice, once in Florida and once in Louisianna. I took a picture of it on a log in florida where we found it growing. It does look like a good fit. There is another choice. In the north east a while back I saw Hypocrea mesenterica, I just remembered the name. It also looks very close. Since I have this collection I think it needs scoped. First I will try to find papers describing both species so I can see if there are spore size differences etc. I do remember reading that Hypocrea peltata was subtropical. But I want to read more. So far I am leaning towards Hypocrea mesenterica just because the other one seems to be southern but I very well could be wrong.
