Did make me wonder.

But what appears to be visible through that small window is a fairly smooth pore surface, like this one I found a days ago.

that the OP (who appears to be awol) has Panus conchatus in the notes, indicating gills were observed.

I’ve looked closer, and I see some areas where hymenium ought to be showing, but I can make out neither gills nor pores, either because the image is too out of focus or because it’s truly smooth.
