Observation 129209: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray
When: 2013-01-27
0 Sequences

This is a winter fruiter under northern conifers. I have collections from Sitka Spruce forest in Humboldt Co. and this one which came from Hemlock, Grand Fir, Douglas-fir forest. It fruits after most other Corts (and mushrooms) have fruited, showing up in mid-late Jan. on the north coast.

Colors range from a pretty bluish-purple color when young to a brownish-purple color in age.
