Recognized by sight: Look at the little ring around the perithecial ostioles. None of Daldinia really have that, and they’re all sort of striated inside. The “Annulo” in Annulohypoxylon refers to that annular disk. See also: http://mycology.sinica.edu.tw/... (noting that section Annulata has since become the Annulohypoxylon).
