Matches original description and photos of Boletus holoxanthus Both, Bessette & Chapman well, whose type locality is in similar habitat one mountain range to the NE. Stains medium blue in a few seconds (i.e. not immediate). All seen were under oaks along an intermittent watercourse at the bottom of the canyon. Other boletes seen at the same time were specimens of Boletus “regius” and a red-pored bolete, probably undescribed. The same location in other years held primarily Boletus chrysenteron, which did not fruit the season this photo was taken.
