Notes: Apparently a new one. Unfortunately I did not collect the specimens, and have not seen it before. Note the unusually coarse reticulation on the stipe.

there is no hugely bulbous stipe.

luridus is a good guess, and it does occur in the SW.

did it blue quickly when handled?

Bill, is that staining blue where the skin on the stipe is torn? Couldn’t this be a Boletus satanas?
