Thanks Danny. There is a lot of literature out there to plow through and not a lot of time for plowing.

I may start collecting jellys. In the past I’ve considered them uninteresting, but I’ve come to appreciate having something to photograph in the winter months. Some genera, such as Dacryopinax, are particularly intriguing.

I don’t recognize it as an obvious fit for any genus of jelly fungi, hence the broader “Heterobasidiomycetes” proposal; a somewhat outdated and very polyphyletic grouping, hence its usage in quotes. a microscope could make very quick work of this, as the major groups of jelly fungi are separated by types of basidia septation. a lack of septation altogether would be just as informative.

google “jelly fungi” and “heterobasidiomycetes” for more.

Do you disagree with the lower taxa that I proposed? Can you recommend some literature to help me get up to speed on Heterobasidiomycetes?
