Observation 130313: Mycena sect. Filipedes (Fr.) Quél.
When: 2013-03-15

Notes: Two mushrooms only, growing on the ground, perhaps on some branchlet buried there. They were just on other side of the trail from the log hosting Observation 130305. I thought they would be the same thing, but microscopy showed big difference.

Caps covered with bloom. Odor mild, slightly spermatic. Taste mild. Nothing “chemical” in odor/taste.

Dried caps pale gray.

Pellicle separates easily: what you pick with tweezers at the margin will peel off to the center, but you cannot separate wide portions of pellicle as in M. epipterygia.

Spores 9-11.5 microns. Basidia 4-spored, 25 × 10, sterigmata 5 microns. Cheilocystidia 35-40 × 20-25 microns. No pleurocystidia.

Cheilocystidia are as in M. filopes, but macroscopic differences are huge. Nothing in Filipedes seems a good match.
