Observation 130347: Mycena (Pers.) Roussel
When: 2013-03-17

Notes: Growing scattered in a bed of needles and rotten maple leaves.

Cap viscid, covered with removable pellicle. Stem dry, puberulous all over. Stem base in a mass of long white fibrils attached to the substrate.

Odor and taste not recorded.

Spores 7-10 × 4-5 microns. Amyloid reaction not checked. Basidia mostly 2-spored, but 4-spored ones seen too, up to 20 microns long and 7 microns wide, sterigmata up to 5 microns. Cheilocystidia forming a sterile band, ~30 × 6 microns. Hyphae on the cortical layer of the stipe smooth, with caulocystidia. Clamps seen in stipitipellis, not sure about the pileipellis.

Doesn’t seem to fit in any Mycena groups with separable pellicle in Maas Geesteranus.
