Observation 130360: Morchella importuna M.Kuo, O’Donnell & T.J.Volk

When: 2013-03-18

Collection location: St. Helena, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Steph Jarvis (Steph Jarvis)

No specimen available

This morel, this is the second year of it coming up in this irrigated garden in St. Helena among wood chips. Last year it fruited in abundance, they were eaten and tasty. I did not expect them to come up again, and this morning – here they are again!
Does anyone know what species this is?
I picked Morchella californica because I really have no idea and Morchella spp was not an option to pick.

I have not eaten it. This was on a client’s property, and they are being dried for later use. Bummer…..
