Amanita multisquamosa was as close as I could get it to anything with a name. Ironically, I’d heard or seen somewhere—it may have been mentioned by Michael Kuo on his MushroomExpert.com site —of a peculiar Amanita from CO and I think specifically from the are where this was found.

The geography and the short marginal striations and the distribution of color…

suggest that this amanita may not be A. multisquamosa.
