I went back to check the spot and it is definitely manure these were growing out of.

I found these about fifteen feet from the parking area. I believe they were growing out of the soil. I haven’t seen horses around this part of the park, but its not imposable it could be manure. It kind of looks like old manure in images 2 and 3.

Could you describe the substrate?
