Recognized by sight: Pileus 3-5 cm broad, convex to plane, brown to dark brown, subtomentose. Flesh pale yellow and cyanescent at first, entirely red with age, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnexed, yellow (3A7), cyanescent, with pores likewise, becoming dark olive brown with age. Stipe 5-9 cm long, 4-9 mm road, equal to slightly broader below, finely and obscurely subpruinose at apex, fibrillose streaked below, entirely red, with conspicuous yellow brown (5E7) velvety tomentum at base, with interior pale yellow at apex, whitish below, intensely cyanescent at first, completely red with age.
